He wasn’t old. He was tired.
Still active, still healthy, still doing the things he loved. But three or four times a night, an enlarged prostate pulled him out of bed. By morning he was exhausted. By the second year he had stopped complaining about it, which is how most men handle this — they file it under “part of getting older” and quietly give up the sleep.
His daughter didn’t accept that, and she went looking for something that would help him.
What She Found In The Aisle
Forty-some bottles, and a market built to confuse.
The ingredient she was looking for would be on the front in big letters. Then she would turn the bottle around looking for the dose, and find two words instead of a number: proprietary blend. Which means there is some of it in here, and we would prefer not to say how much.
Where doses were printed, they were often a fraction of what the published research used. “Standardized extract” frequently wasn’t — no standardization percentage anywhere on the label. And a surprising number of the bottles on a Canadian shelf carried no Canadian licence number at all.
There is only one reason a company writes “proprietary blend.” If the dose were impressive, they would print it. Proprietary blends don’t protect formulas. They protect margins.
There was no honest way for an ordinary person to tell a legitimate product from marketing noise. And the men who needed help most — men in their fifties and sixties, tired, embarrassed, not inclined to audit a label — were exactly the ones the labels were written for.
So We Stopped Shopping And Started Formulating
Aleaf Labs began there. Not from a business plan, but from a conviction that her father, and every man like him, deserved a product where the dose was printed, the claim was licensed, and the evidence was something you could actually go and read.
Find relief with Aleaf.
Our Mission
To make Health Canada–licensed, evidence-informed natural health products available to people who deserve better than proprietary blends, inflated claims and under-dosed ingredients. Every product we sell carries a valid NPN, discloses every medicinal ingredient at its exact dose, and is made in Canada under GMP conditions. No hidden formulas. No pixie dust.
What Each Product Is Licensed To Say
A Natural Product Number is not a registration you buy. It is a pre-market authorization: Health Canada reviews the evidence for the actual ingredients at the actual doses under the Natural Health Products Regulations (SOR/2003-196), and then sets exactly what that product is permitted to claim.
That last part is the part worth understanding. A licensed product is allowed to name a condition. A product with nothing licensed behind it has to retreat into “supports wellness” and “promotes healthy function” — which is why so many labels read that way.
Here is what ours are permitted to say, word for word:
-
Complete Prostate HealthNPN 80087894
“Used in Herbal Medicine to help relieve the urologic symptoms — weak urine flow, incomplete voiding, frequent daytime and night-time urination — associated with mild to moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia.”
-
Testosterone BoosterNPN 80088086
“Helps to support and promote testosterone production in men.” — and “helps to support men’s healthy sexual interest.”
-
Cranberry + D-MannoseNPN 80137608
“Helps prevent (recurrent) urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women.”
-
Pro-UROL Coming SoonNPN 80147704
“Helps relieve the pain of non-bacterial chronic prostatitis” — and “helps relieve pain associated with chronic prostatitis to support quality of life.”
Four licences, four named conditions. Every health claim we make anywhere on this site sits inside one of them.
Our Credentials At A Glance
How We Formulate
We do not use proprietary blends. Every medicinal ingredient in every Aleaf Labs product is disclosed on the label at the exact quantity authorized under its NPN licence. We do not hide doses behind blend names, and we do not include ingredients at sub-therapeutic amounts for label appeal. If it is in the formula, it is there at a dose with a clinical rationale.
The process starts with published human trials — randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses in peer-reviewed journals. We assess dose, standardization and mechanism before any compound goes in. Our flagship formulas have an accompanying clinical white paper and a detailed ingredient review published in The Aleaf Journal, including the findings that are inconvenient for us.
Straight Talk: What We’re Not
We make three products. Not thirty. We get asked for a greens powder, a sleep gummy and a multivitamin about once a month. We haven’t made them, because we couldn’t find literature we’d be comfortable putting a real dose behind. If you want a full stack from one brand, we are the wrong company.
Nothing we make works in a week. Botanicals move on a timescale of weeks to months. If you want to feel something by Friday, buy a stimulant — you will be happier and we will both have saved the trouble.
And none of it replaces a doctor. Our products are licensed for specific conditions, which also means they are not licensed for everything else. If your symptoms are new, worsening, or come with pain, fever or blood, get examined before you buy anything — from us or from anyone.
Who We Serve
Most of what we make is for men in their 40s, 50s and 60s navigating prostate symptoms, hormonal change and urinary health. These are not minor inconveniences. They are broken sleep, lost energy, and a slow erosion of confidence that most men never mention to anyone.
Cranberry + D-Mannose is the exception, and deliberately so: it is licensed to help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections in women, and it exists because recurring UTIs are their own kind of quietly life-organizing problem.
We also work with the healthcare professionals who support those patients — family physicians, urologists, naturopathic doctors and pharmacists. Clinical white papers, ingredient monographs and dosing rationale are available on request through our clinical inquiry form.
You Reach A Person
We are a small, focused company. When you contact Aleaf Labs, you reach someone who knows the products, understands the evidence behind them, and can answer a detailed question without escalating it.

Start Where It Actually Hurts
The father in this story got his nights back. If that sounds like your week — or your husband’s, or your dad’s — the fastest thing you can do is pick the formula built for it and give it one honest month.
Find My Formula → Every product is covered by the Empty-Bottle Guarantee. Finish the bottle — not return it sealed — and if nothing changed, send back the empty and we refund the purchase price in full.
